Last year, Kesha news almost exclusively revolved around her ongoing legal battle with Sony Music. Kesha sought to be released from her contract with Kemosabe Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music, due to the label’s founder, producer Lukasz Gottwald (better known as Dr. Luke), of sexual misconduct. However, the contract itself requires the release of six additional albums, meaning Kesha would be in violation of contractual obligation if she released new music through another means. Fans have expressed solidarity with Kesha through the hashtag #FreeKesha. Though the legal battle between Kesha, Dr. Luke and Sony continues, there is additional news out there in the world of Kesha.
Two other pop stars might become part of Kesha’s legal battle. A text message sent by Kesha to Lady Gaga could become admissible in court as a piece of evidence. Katy Perry has also been mentioned as have possible involvement in the exchange, though the extent of her involvement is currently unknown.
Despite her ongoing legal battle putting something on her releasing new music, Kesha is nonetheless continuing with recording new music. Her latest collaboration is sure to spark plenty of curiosity. On Instagram, Kesha shared a post about recording with rock band the Eagles of Death Metal. What the collaboration between the band and Kesha entailed remains to be heard, but it is sure to be worth hearing.
Kesha has been staying active on social media, particularly on Twitter. Recently, she tweeted a new tattoo of hers, a pink and yellow orca with the caption “Psychedelic whales are currently covering my entire body…” She also tweeted a photo of herself surrounded by snow with a frozen waterfall as the backdrop with the caption “the pain and strength it takes to climb a mountain is difficult. but the top is fucking breathtaking.” She also tweeted about other work she has been doing in the studio, including a duet with another singer.
After an undoubtedly stressful 2016, the effects of which she is still working through, it is encouraging to see how Kesha is showcasing her resilience and excitement in the new year. We hope for the best with her and case against Dr. Luke and Sony and that she can release new music as soon as possible. We look forward to hearing her collaboration with the Eagles of Death Metal and any other new songs she has in the pipeline.
