If there's one thing Kesha knows how to do, it's tell stories. Here's a pretty good one: Two years ago, the aspiring pop singer and songwriter decided she wanted Prince to produce her first album. So, she found out his address and drove to his Beverly Hills home, where she paid the gardener five dollars to let her squeeze herself under his front gate. Then she hiked up the driveway (which was lined in purple velvet), let herself in through an unlocked side door, and rode the mirrored elevator up to the third floor where the Purple One himself was jamming with his band."It was kind of awkward,"she recalls,"but who cares, right? So I sat on one of the purple thrones in the room until he noticed me, which he finally did. He was like,"How the hell did you get in here?"she says with a laugh. Sleep mode active."His security kicked me out, but not before I left him my demo CD wrapped in a giant purple bow."

Lady Gaga maintains pole position on Billboard’s European Albums chart with “The Fame” (Interscope/Universal), but loses out to a new female frontrunner on European Hot 100 Singles, as her “Bad Romance” is replaced at No. 1 by Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” (RCA/Sony Music Entertainment).

“The Fame” has its run at the top in Germany ended by Hamburg rock band Tocotronic’s “Schall und Wahn” (Universal). That’s also new at No. 5 in Austria and No. 6 on European Albums. Lady Gaga’s album is up 23-15 in Portugal, while her “Fame Monster” EP holds at No. 1 in Ireland, up 3-2 in Italy and Finland, 9-7 in Sweden and 14-13 on European Albums.

With the top four on the pan-European album chart unchanged, Black Eyed Peas’ “The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies)” (Interscope) holds at No.2, leading the way again in France, Portugal and the Belgian region of Wallony. Alicia Keys stays at No. 3 overall with “The Element of Freedom” (J/Sony Music Entertainment), pushing 3-2 in Holland, 12-10 in Germany and 8-2 in the United Kingdom, a career-best album ranking there, on weekly sales of 32,000. “Crazy Love” (Reprise/Warner Music) is at No. 4 Europe-wide again for Michael BublĂ©, still moving well in Wallony (11-3), Italy (4-3), Holland (6-4), France (12-5) and Portugal (14-10).

Paolo Nutini’s “Sunny Side Up” (Atlantic/Warner Music) climbs 8-5 on European Albums, moving 2-1 to top the U.K. chart again with 35,000 new sales. With the Tocotronic album new at No. 6 overall, Rihanna’s “Rated R” (Def Jam/Universal) moves back into the top ten, 11-7. It’s up 8-1 in Norway, ahead of John Mayer’s “Battle Studies” (Columbia/Sony Music Entertainment), which is up 3-2 there and 8-5 in Sweden.

Florence + the Machine’s “Lungs” (Universal Island), which loses top place to Nutini in the United Kingdom, slips 6-8 on the pan-European list, but holds at No. 3 in Ireland. Rounding out the European Albums top ten, Robbie Williams’ “Reality Killed The Video Star” (Virgin/EMI) slides two places to No. 9 and Susan Boyle’s “I Dreamed A Dream” (Syco Music/Sony Music Entertainment) falls 5-10. Williams manages an 11-9 climb in Germany, while Boyle is still No. 1 again in Flanders.

Ke$ha’s chart-topping debut European singles chart success makes up for a close shave last year, when the hit she guested on, Flo-Rida’s “Right Round” (Atlantic/Warner Music), spent seven consecutive weeks at No. 2 on European Hot 100 Singles, held off the top by Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.”

“Tik Tok,” which peaked at No. 4 in the United Kingdom four weeks ago, now spends a third week at No. 1 in Austria, Switzerland and Wallony, and a second in Germany. It debuts at No. 2 in France, holds at No. 6 in Italy and climbs 11-9 in Spain.
